FREE LESSON 1

WHY HUNTERS AIM SO CAREFULLY

Why Hunters Aim So Carefully

Good hunters care about animals a lot! That might sound funny, but it's true. When a hunter takes an animal, they want it to be quick and gentle, so the animal never feels scared or hurt for long.

That is why hunters aim at one special spot and nowhere else. Aiming carefully is a way of being KIND. A hunter who rushes or guesses is not being kind, and real hunters never do that.

In this course, you and your grown-up will learn about the special spot, why practice makes hunters better, and why waiting is a hunter's superpower.

  • Good hunters care about animals and want everything to be quick and gentle
  • Aiming carefully is a way of being kind
  • Practice and patience are a hunter's superpowers

FIELD NOTE · Ask your grown-up: why do you think aiming carefully is a way of being kind to animals? Talk about it together.

FREE LESSON 2

THE SPECIAL SPOT

The Special Spot

Look at the picture of the deer. See the glowing spot right behind its front leg? That's where a deer's heart and lungs are the engine that keeps it going. Hunters call this the vitals.

A careful shot to the vitals is the quickest, kindest way to take an animal. That's why hunters practice pointing at that exact spot, over and over, until they can find it in one second.

Here's a trick to remember it: follow the deer's front leg UP, then slide back just a little. That's the spot! Can you find it on the picture with your finger?

  • The vitals are the heart and lungs, behind the front leg
  • One careful shot to the vitals is the quickest and kindest
  • Follow the front leg up, then slide back a little — that's the spot

FIELD NOTE · Play 'Find the Spot' with your grown-up: look at pictures of deer in books or online and take turns pointing to where the vitals are.
