WHERE DOES WILD FOOD COME FROM?

Where Does Wild Food Come From?

Have you ever wondered where the food on your plate comes from? Some comes from gardens, some from farms and some comes from the wild! When hunters take an animal, that animal becomes real food for real families. Hunters call it 'wild food' or 'game.'

Wild food is special because the animal lived free its whole life running through forests, drinking from creeks, munching acorns. And the hunter worked hard for it: waking up early, sitting quietly, and being patient.

In this course, you'll learn the biggest secret of hunting families: the hunt isn't finished when the animal is taken. The most important job comes after taking care of the food so nothing is wasted. That's what little camp cooks learn!

  • Wild food comes from animals that lived free in nature
  • Hunters work hard and are patient to bring food home
  • The most important job comes AFTER the hunt — caring for the food

FIELD NOTE · At dinner tonight, play the 'where did it come from?' game with your grown-up: pick three foods on the table and guess their journey to your plate.

FREE LESSON 2

SAYING THANK YOU

Saying Thank You

Look at the picture. The hunters are kneeling quietly next to the deer. They're not cheering or jumping around they're saying thank you. Hunting families have done this for thousands and thousands of years.

Why thank you? Because the animal gave something big: it becomes food that feeds the family all winter. Good hunters never forget that. They take a quiet moment, touch the animal gently, and feel grateful.

You can practice gratitude too, even before you ever go hunting: say thank you before meals, be gentle with animals, and never, ever waste food. Wasting wild food would be like throwing away the animal's gift.

  • Hunters take a quiet thank-you moment with every animal
  • The animal gives a big gift: food for the whole family
  • Never waste food — that's the hunter's promise

FIELD NOTE · Start a family thank-you tradition: before dinner, everyone names one thing they're grateful for. Hunters have done this forever!
