FREE LESSON 1

WHAT DO ANIMALS NEED?

What Do Animals Need?

Think about what YOU need every day: food, water, a cozy home, and room to play. Guess what? Wild animals need the exact same four things! Animal experts call it 'habitat' food, water, shelter, and space.

Look at the picture: the deer have bushes to munch (food), a little creek (water), thick trees to hide in (shelter), and a big meadow to roam (space). That's a perfect deer home!

When a wild place has all four things, animals are happy and healthy, and families grow. When even one is missing no water, or no hiding places animals have to move away. In this course, you'll learn how to be one of nature's helpers!

  • Habitat means an animal's home: food, water, shelter, and space
  • All four things together make animals happy and healthy
  • If one thing is missing, animals must move away

FIELD NOTE · Go on a habitat hunt in your yard or park with your grown-up: can you find food, water, shelter, and space for the animals that live there?

FREE LESSON 2

HUNTERS ARE NATURE'S HELPERS (SURPRISE!)

Hunters Are Nature's Helpers (Surprise!)

Here's a surprise that mixes some people up: hunters are some of nature's BIGGEST helpers! How can that be? Because real hunters love wild animals and wild places more than almost anyone they want forests full of deer and skies full of ducks forever and ever.

And here's the really cool part: when hunters buy their hunting licenses, that money goes to help animals! It pays for planting trees, cleaning up creeks, protecting wetlands, and taking care of parks like the one in the picture.

So every time your family hunts the right way following the rules, taking only what's allowed you're actually helping wild animals have better homes. Hunters were some of the very first people to say 'let's protect nature!' over a hundred years ago!

  • Real hunters love wild animals and wild places
  • License money pays for helping animals and their homes
  • Hunters were some of the first nature protectors, long ago

FIELD NOTE · Ask your grown-up to show you their hunting license and tell them: 'This helped plant trees and clean creeks!' Because it did!
